Hi.  I'm Bingo the guinea pig and I asked if I could do a guest post on my momma's blog.
My momma gout out the Christmas decorations this week.  Because there are no children here, only guinea pigs, we don't participate in that Elf On the Shelf phenomenon.  I sure am glad, too.  I mean have you ever looked up close at an elf?  Really?  Have you?

Guinea Pig Book review: A Reel Cool Summer

A Reel Cool Summer by Martha Rodriguez. 

The illustrations in this book are great. They are very rich, interesting, and full of color. 

It's a cute story of two brothers and their sister who use an old video camera to make a movie. After all, it's a super hot day and they are bored. It's a day that is like lava and the mall! Their guinea pigs star as aliens in this story.

Please note, I have had over eleven guinea pigs.  I love guinea pigs, but they aren't the right pet for everyone.  Here are some things to consider.

Guinea pigs are often seen as "Starter Pets" but I have actually recommended people get a dog instead of a guinea pig.

Some of the things to take into consideration:  They are fragile animals and can be dropped by small hands quite easily.  They are heavier at their head, and I've heard of more than one guinea pig falling to its death because it landed head first.

Making a Large Inexpensive Guinea Pig Cage

I often see people asking about a cheap cage for guinea pigs.  I made mine for under $25 (and since this photo was taken I've expanded it to almost twice the size in this photo and used leftover materials.)  Store bought cages are almost always twice this expensive.

Store-bought cages don't give guinea pigs enough room.  (Guineas need anywhere from 4 square feet to 7 square feet PER PIG so I know my cage still is on the border of small, and it's twice what you see in this photo.)
